WHAT’S THE BEST RACING SIM FOR ME?

This is a bit of a tricky question. One thing that most people will agree on: Although being advertised as such, Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo are not exacly racing simulations. But fear not! They are excellent racing games und tons of fun. I got into sim racing through Forza and got my first wheel for it, just to get a bit more immersion. From there on, it’s definitely a rabbit hole and a after a while you’ll ask yourself how you could play hours of those games with the racing line on and all assists activated.

Anyway, here’s an overview of the most common (and awesome) racing sims currently available!

PROJECT CARS 2

ASSETTO CORSA

Assetto Corsa’s graphics engine recreates an immersive environment, dynamic lighthing and realistic materials and surfaces. The advanced physics engine is being designed to provide a very realistic driving experience with a variety of car types and classes. What makes it so appealing is the ability to install mods to bring it to almost infinite cars and tracks. Especially mods like the Custom Shader Patch and Sol in combination elevate the game on today’s level graphically.

ASSETTO CORSA COMPETIZIONE

Assetto Corsa Competizione as the newest game from Kunos Simulazioni is designed to faithfully recreate the performance and the driving experience of real GT World Challenge cars through a sophisticated mathematical model that accurately replicates the car’s parameters realistically.

The Unreal Engine 4 guarantees photorealistic rendering and an accurate representation of scenarios, car materials and weather conditions. Additionally it features laser-scanned circuits and realistic weather conditions.

rFACTOR 2

iRACING

When it comes to racing sims, there’s probably one leading platform. iRacing is has officially licensed car replicas with very accurate mechanical and dynamic models. It boasts a multitude of realistic race tracks from around the world. The actual racing is also a step above what we are used to from normal online gaming.

As in real life, races take place at fixed times various times a day. Here you can take a look a the schedule. Of course it’s also possible to organize your own races and leagues. And beginners: fear not. There’s a cool feature named “ghost mode”. You can participate in all races without causing any harm in case you make an error.
